Avoiding downtime is critical. This Combined Cycle Power Plant used diagnostics to avoid downtime and manage parts inventory.
A combined cycle power plant in the NYC Metropolitan area had a limited budget and spare warehouse space for parts. Regardless, the power plant needs to maintain fluid and consistent operations as a continuously running base-load power plant. When valves fail, and parts are not readily available, the plant risks costly downtime.
Plant managers, along with Fisher Control Valve subject matter experts, began exploring ways to fill the information gaps and strategically approach valve parts and plant life-cycle maintenance. Using Emerson’s asset-management and diagnostic tools, Fisher used key insights to recommend critical spare parts to keep on hand. The overall investment was one-seventh the cost of a failure causing downtime for a day.
