Workshop Weigh-In: Stroke Test and Shipping of Record-Setting Valve Assemblies

Just three months in the new building, and the new 10-ton crane is proving to be the perfect upgrade from the 2-ton crane previously used in the old workshop. Last week, Applied Control’s Valve Automation group built and conducted stroke-tests on two SCV ball valve assemblies before loading them onto a flatbed trailer. The smaller of the valve assemblies, a 16″-diameter SCV ball valve with a Bettis G5 Actuator weighed approximately 8,000 pounds. The larger was a 20″-diameter SCV ball valve with a Bettis G7, weighing over 16,000 pounds after assembly. To date, this is the heaviest assembly ever tested at Applied Control.

In celebration of this achievement, all employees were invited to watch the stroke-testing of the larger 20″ ball valve assembly.

Heavy duty lifting

The next morning, a flatbed-trailer backed into the warehouse, and the crane was used to safely load the valve assemblies, before securing them down for transport to Wyoming.

While this heavy assembly has been a long time in the making, this milestone will only be overshadowed next week when the Workshop takes on a project involving a 24″-Diameter Virgo ball valve.
